Falls and falling objects are a major risk at construction sites

On Behalf of | Mar 13, 2025 | Serious and Catastrophic Injuries

Construction workers provide a valuable service to individuals and businesses, but that comes at a risk for them. The nature of many of these job sites means that they face considerable dangers, including falls and falling objects, while they’re doing their job duties.

It’s up to their employers to ensure that their construction workers have a safe work environment. This includes providing protective and safety equipment, as well as having proper protocol for these common situations.

Falls

Falls are major risks at all construction sites. Falls can be caused by uneven surfaces or things strewn around the work site. Keeping the area clean and labelling hazards can help to minimize the risk of falls. Fall arrest devices and proper ladder climbing procedures can help to prevent serious falls.

Falling objects

Falling objects can be dangerous for construction workers. Hardhats can prevent some of these injuries, but other equipment may also be beneficial. For example, a safety net can prevent items from falling onto workers from heights. Safety harnesses and straps for items are also helpful in preventing injuries from objects falling.

Any construction worker who suffers an injury at work should ensure they get medical attention immediately. This may be a costly undertaking, but the expense should be covered by workers’ compensation. Workers who have catastrophic or long-term injuries may be eligible for other benefits, such as partial wage replacement. Some workers may need to fight for the benefits they’re due, which may require the assistance of someone familiar with these matters.
